4 March 2026 – New Wave Real Estate Netherlands has entered into a strategic partnership with Swedish energy developer Flower Infrastructure Technologies (hereinafter referred to as Flower) to develop Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The partnership focuses on identifying and developing suitable industrial sites for large-scale battery storage, a crucial link in Europe’s energy transition.
New Wave Real Estate Netherlands, founded in 2024, specialises in logistics and industrial real estate and supports Flower in its expansion across Northwest Europe. Flower develops and operates future-proof energy assets, with BESS forming a core component of its international growth strategy.
A key feature of the partnership is a shared strategic position on grid connections. Flower focuses on developing and utilising industrial sites with strategic potential and invests with a long-term perspective, even when available grid capacity is still limited at that time. In that phase, smart and flexible solutions are used, such as smaller connections or a phased development approach. New Wave Real Estate Netherlands supports this process by structuring sites, creating contractual frameworks and facilitating alignment with owners and public-sector stakeholders.
“The energy transition requires flexibility and a long-term perspective. By securing strategic industrial sites now and using grid capacity wisely, we create long-term value for owners of industrial sites as well as for the energy system,” said Tim Stoffelen, founder of New Wave Real Estate Netherlands.
Within the partnership, New Wave Real Estate Netherlands focuses on acquiring suitable industrial plots in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Flower is looking for sites across a wide range of scales, from compact plots starting at around 2,000 m² to large-scale sites spanning multiple hectares. The assumed energy demand can vary from a few to several tens of megawatts. Flower has proven international experience in acquiring and developing large industrial sites. Both purchasing and leasing land are possible.
Flower also emphasises the importance of a long-term approach. “We don’t only look at what is possible today, but especially at what the location can deliver over time. That requires flexibility in development and partners who can adapt. The collaboration with New Wave enables us to implement that strategy in a practical way across different markets,” said Ilija Ivankovic, project developer at Flower.
Through this partnership, New Wave Real Estate Netherlands and Flower respond to increasing pressure on electricity grids and the growing need for large-scale energy storage in Northwest Europe.
